Win the Job! – English for the Job Finding Process

In today’s global economy English has become essential for the world of work. However, the use of English does not start once we get the job as many companies conduct the interview process in English.

SLC offers a special course designed to help students prepare to find a job in English. By this we mean that students will be equipped with the various language skills necessary to undertake the following steps in the job finding process:

• Browsing job advertisements in publications and on the internet
• Writing a Curriculum Vitae
• Writing a job application letter
• Telephoning
• Interviewing
• Etiquette

This is a short course (21 hours) designed for people who need to improve their English skills in the above areas as quickly as possible.

Writing an attention grabbing application letter is obviously an important skill to have. Students will learn various letter and email writing techniques which will be invaluable even after the job finding process.

Materials will be taken from various sources including some IELTS based speaking and listening practice materials which focus on interviewing techniques such as listening for gist and specific purposes, and expanding answers to interview questions.

Students will also consolidate various grammar areas as well as work on pronunciation and intonation which will enable them to be clearly understood.

By the end of the course students will have built their confidence and will be ready to face one of the most important situations in their working life – the job interview. They will also have the ability to compose a job application letter and have a working CV.
